My name is Dana and I live in Vancouver, B.C., Canada. I bought my 2006 diesel Chevy truck from Hand Picked Trucks in December 2007. There are a lot of trucks out here for sale, but in Dec.’07 our dollar hit a record high so I decided to look in the States. I’m from Miami Fl. and had been shopping for a motor home for several months until I finally found one on line that I really liked and looked like a great deal, the pictures of it online looked really good and the owner had said it was in great condition. I decided to make the purchase and flew out to Alabama to buy it and drive it back. When I finally arrived I almost fainted to see the poor condition this coach was in. With a red hot fuming mind I quickly told the owner the deal was off and to please drive me back to the airport which was an hour and a half away I had to call in an other one way ticket back that cost me $390.00 and a stop in Atlanta Ga. What a nightmare. After that fiasco I decided to go to plan B which was buying a truck and then later going with a fifth wheel trailer. I started to look for a truck online and local only. Well I couldn’t find anything worth looking at until I ran across Handpicked Western Trucks web site and saw their trucks, I quickly fell in love with the F350 I saw online, I could not believe my eyes to see the condition this age of truck was in, but after my bad experience i was kind of hesitant to fly even further for this truck. After speaking with Colleen I felt reassured that it wasn’t too good to be true and took the risk. After arriving at their dealer and saw and drove the truck it was everything I thought it would be and made the purchase. 1,200 miles later I was back in Miami with my new truck Thank you Mark and Colleen for making it a pleasurable experience.

My experience with Mark and Colleen started thru a impromptu phone call with Colleen that lasted an hour and a half. I'd spent countless hours and days over the year since I'd sold my last truck (ask my wife!) pouring over classified adds on countless websites looking at used trucks and building trucks on manufacturer websites. I'd had new vehicles all my life and new trucks are great, but I just couldn't stomach the thought of taking that depreciation hit on a 50-60 thousand dollar vehicle. I sure wish I had that money back that I'd lost over all those years on new vehicle purchases. Something struck me about the trucks on the Handpicked Western Trucks website. So I called on a whim. There was no high pressure salesman trying to sell me what I didn't want. In fact, over three more hour or longer phone calls, Colleen helped me decide exactly what would be best for my intended use...hunting. I convinced my wife to take the four hour drive to Leon, Virginia to see what Mark and Colleen had to offer. We drove two vehicles but before I was two miles down the road in vehicle #2, it was sold. When we got back to the lot, there was another gentleman waiting to buy the same truck sight unseen. I had the mixed pleasure of telling him it was already sold. We drove home to Greensboro, NC with a deposit in place and drove all the way back the following Saturday to pick up my "new" used 2001 F350 Crewcab 4X4 longbed. I absolutely love this truck! It's like brand new for less than half the price. I've recommended Handpicked Western Trucks to everyone I know looking for a truck but who have heartburn with new truck prices. And when I show them my new truck, there's nothing but disbelief and a lot of ooohs and aaahhs. Everyone is impressed.

After nearly a year of searching on the internet for this particular model of truck in manual shift --- I found the Handpicked Western Trucks website. I found the truck I wanted, then looked at the pictures of the vehicle, in particular the one of the engine compartment, and I was sold.
Then came the problem of organizing the financing from the Cayman Islands in the Caribbean where I work. First Cate and Colleen chatted, deposits got lost in “cyberspace”, then Mark and I chatted. They cut me some slack with timing when money wires kept getting lost! I was used to this coming from Africa where I was a Professional Hunter!! But I am not sure they were!
I have now collected my “beast” and finally met Mark and Colleen face to face. These folks have retained the old style honors, codes and traditions that America was formed on and it has been our privilege and pleasure to do business with them. Mark even put a name on the truck that I told him about: “Dugga Boy” --- Tribal word for the big bad black Cape Buffalo bulls (I used to see in Africa).
I think I scared Mark on the test drive --- you folks drive on a different side of the road around here!

We purchased our 1997 Ford F250 7.3 Supercrew on July 31, 2010. We had been browsing for several months and had found the website and thought how nice the trucks looked. Then someone at my husband's workplace recommended Handpicked because he had purchased one from Mark & Colleen and was very happy with it. We started watching the site and eventually saw the '97. It was a difficult decision to let our '02 F150 go, but we needed the 3/4 ton truck to tow our new camper. The truck is in extremely good condition in the interior and the exterior and so far mechanically it is sound. There was absolutely no pressure from anyone, although when they say, "buy it today because it might not be here tomorrow, they mean it! While we were in the office working on the paperwork to purchase the truck, another couple began looking at it and actually asked Colleen about it when we went out to get the keys out of it :-)

We just got back from a camping trip and the truck towed the camper flawlessly and averaged 17 mpg (our F150 averaged 13 mpg)!

Would we buy from Colleen and Mark again? You bet, without a second thought.

Well the story goes I had a 1995 f150 4x4 xlt and I realized I need a bigger truck for the family because the extended cab was just not enough space for my family. Well I begin my internet search for a bigger truck and I came across this one dealer that sold nothing but diesel trucks and I thought man these are nice trucks but I don’t want no gas guzzling diesel truck, so I said at least I’ll go test drive one and I must say why did I do that. The raw power of these trucks just impressed me so much that I called my wife and said honey I found the type of truck I want and she said go for it. So but to my luck during the test drive a noticed a check engine light would come on when you get down on it and then it would go off, so I asked the dealer about that and they said that’s because it has a chip in it, well I immediately started asking can they fix this problem and they said don’t worry about it it’s fine then there were some other nick nacks that they just did not want to fix so I was on the hunt from this point on. One day while on my computer searching I goggled 7.3 power stroke and that’s when I came across Handpicked Western Trucks, the site of the very first truck I seen made me almost jump out my seat. The quality of all their trucks are just by far more impressive than any dealer I had come across, I mean these trucks looked as if they had just come from the manufacturer. So I called and that’s when I met the best sells rep ever Mike, let me tell u I’m a practical jokester with a good since of humor but Mike was just as much as the same. Immediately we became very good friends and I began to tell Mike what I was looking for and he said they had a truck there but It was not in the price range I was looking for, so I was a little hurt buy this but Mike being the great guy he is said stop crying Ron and cheer up and promised if I give him just a couple of days and he would fine what I was looking for. Well the rest is history Mike called four days later and told me to come and check out my new truck and when I did I was very impressed, Mike even out did himself even better with this truck (WOW), it was everything and more that I was looking for.

So in closing I’ll say this, I was a mustang and Subaru car type of guy before this 7.3, but now all I can say is I will never invest another penny is gas anymore, well except for my riding lawnmower or unless u can find me a diesel mower Mike (LOL). Diesel all the way (REAL TRUCKS DON’T HAVE SPARK PLUGS). Thanks Mike for everything and see you in about four years for another one.

I finally found what I was looking for here at Handpicked Western Trucks. Try finding extended cab diesel with a manual transmission. I searched the truck trader and found 2 within 400 miles. Man from Winston Salem NC buys 1997 Ford F250 Crew Cab Short Bed

On December 1, 2007 Colleen and I delivered a 1997 Ford F250 to Mr. “Jay” Cutchin of Winston Salem, NC. He purchased this truck based on our pictures and description, but his most positive reaction upon actually seeing the truck and the subsequent test drive really said it all. Several days later on the phone he exclaimed, “Colleen, the more I drive this truck, the more I like it, but I have a problem with Mark’s MIG scale rating of 9.5. It really should’ve been 9.8!” We commented that we prefer to understate quality and condition and have the customer pleasantly surprised when they actually see and drive the truck. Jay, thank you so much for your business!!!
Subsequent to the above posting, Jay e-mailed us and wanted to say it in his own words. Jay writes about his purchase:
Well - what an experience it was, and a pleasant one, by the way. You know it’s hard for a southern redneck good ’ole boy to trust a couple of transplanted Yankees but I stuck my neck out and did just that. I also bought a vehicle over the phone, after just looking at just a couple of photos - sent these people money even! Can you believe it? After it’s all been said and done, however, I have to say that Mark and Colleen are really southern at heart - they just talk funny. They assured me that I could inspect the truck, drive it and kick the tires all I wanted and if I didn’t like it, I didn’t have to take it. They were extremely accommodating and drove the truck down to NC on a visit to their daughter and her family. (Grandparents are such suckers - they just used me as an excuse). Well - I had a friend (also a TPY from MA - they’re taking over) drive me over to pick up the truck and he also was impressed with Mark and Colleen and was really impressed with the truck. “SWEET” was his remark. After driving it for a month now, it has surpassed my expectations. No dings, rust, faded paint or cracked paint - no blemishes whatsoever. Runs like a sewing machine. The only fault I can find is that Mark’s rating system is too strict - he said my truck was a 9.5 - it should be a 9.8. I drive vehicles until the wheels come off or my needs change. Then I’ll be calling Handpicked Western Trucks once again. This time I won’t be trusting strangers.

In 1991, I couldn’t afford the truck I REALLY wanted, so I got a ½ ton gasoline powered GMC. It has been a good truck, but at 260,000 miles, the ’92 is down to light duty trips to town. We wanted a truck for hauling vineyard and orchard supplies and we knew we wanted a diesel. I had worked on diesel engines while in the Coast Guard, however, I never owned a large diesel truck. Mary and I spent many hours with Mark and Colleen one Saturday - the entire day actually - test driving trucks. We never felt pressured and Mark was the patient teacher. This purchase has been the absolute best.  My girlfriend and I drove down from Fredericksburg after looking on the internet to see what there was at the dealership. My intentions were to buy the “Tried and True” 7.3L Power Stroke. I test drove one. It was a great truck! We wanted leather interior. Mark said he had a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 LT that he had bought out in Colorado and drove back. I took it for a short test drive and decided this was the truck we wanted (actually my girlfriend decided this was the truck she wanted).
I “highly” recommend Handpicked Western Trucks to everyone. Mark and Colleen are in the business of selling trucks, but there is no “high pressure” sales there. They are not going to convince you to just buy a truck and like it later. That has been my experience at the "Big Box" dealerships. I know the big box dealerships have a lot of overhead, but maybe they should take lessons from Colleen and Mark. In closing, when I am in the market to buy another truck, I will be going back to Handpicked Western Trucks again.

Over the past 3 months we have been diligently searching for a quality pick-up truck for our 16 yr old son. He has been patiently awaiting the opportunity to find an older model diesel pick-up with his specific "wish list". He has researched the differences of a gas vs. diesel on the internet and has his mind set on his so called ultimate truck as a first vehicle. We have driven as far as 2hrs one way to examine and test drive numerous diesel trucks pictured and described by dealers as great, solid, priced to sell, well maintained, minimal rust, etc........They turned out to be disappointing, shaky, over-priced, leaking, un-maintained, and rust buckets. My son found a 1996 Ford F-250 pick-up on Handpicked Western Trucks' internet site. Due to our most recent experiences, I was skeptical to say the least, this truck was a 6-1/2 hr one way drive. I contacted Mark the owner and questioned him about the quality of the vehicle and requested additional pictures of specific areas of the truck including underneath. He understood exactly what I, the meticulous consumer, was looking to purchase for my son. Over the course of half a dozen phone conversations Mark and Colleen provided me everything that I needed. The decision was made to sign purchase agreement, make a deposit, arranged pickup date, and put my trust in individuals/company whom I only spoke with over the phone. The following Friday we arrived early morning 20 minutes before business opening, anxiously awaiting the garage door to open. We inspected and drove the diesel truck. We watched the site and were both very excited to see the "under contract" changed to SOLD ! After all our troubles of getting there (snow storm of the century! flight canceled, next flight diverted from Richmond to Raleigh - then renting a car in Raleigh and driving up !) After hours and hours of research on the internet I decided the truck I wanted was an 05 or 06, mint condition, low mileage Dodge with the 5.9 Cummins Diesel, 4 x 4, Quad Cab, manual 6 speed with a long bed. I searched every Dodge Dealer within 250 miles of my north central Indiana location and found nothing that met my criteria. Logan Receives His First Vehicle Ever on Christmas Day!

Back in late November Logan G. came to our dealership with his parents to look at diesel trucks in an effort to find his first vehicle. His heart was set on a ’97 Ford F250 7.3L Power Stroke black regular cab. I found the truck online at 3:00 one afternoon. Although I was 3 hours away they said they’d wait for me if I wanted to come down that evening. They normally close at 6 pm. With traffic it took me over three and a half hours to get there but they waited for me as promised. When I got there Mark was talking to a guy who I assumed was a friend. He let me look at the truck without standing over my shoulder. I crawled in, out, and under it. When I was ready I took it for a ride through the beautiful countryside. I liked the truck and decided I wanted it. It was only after I left a deposit Colleen told me the gentleman talking to Mark was another customer interested in the same truck but since I had called first they let me make a decision before they let him purchase the truck. I think very few dealers would do that.
The next day I arranged financing and made my way back down to central VA. Once again I was later than expected in arriving, my daughter had wrecked my car just as I was signing my loan papers at the bank. Without a car I called Colleen and asked if I rode my motorcycle down would they have a way to get it into my truck. Mark said they could definitely work something out. I rode down, finished the paperwork, and as promised they helped load the bike into the truck.
I will not soon forget my buying experience with Handpicked Western Trucks and will definitely look them up when I’m ready for another truck.

The “PERFECT TRUCK” is what I found at Handpicked Western Trucks, Ford with 5.9 Cummins engine. Recently as I was driving south on Route 29, a truck at Handpicked Western Trucks caught my attention. The business was closed at the time and since I live 40 miles away, I asked my brother who lives in the area to check the truck out. When he called me to tell me about his findings, I took note he had as much to say about Mark and the business as he did the truck. A day later, I also went by to look at the truck. I learned a lot about the business in short order. I now understand what is meant by handpicked trucks. After 2 years of searching for the right vehicle for me, I decided on a Diesel.  I have several family members who own them and can’t say enough about their performance.  The Cummins Turbo Diesel was my first choice.  I searched locally and discovered that they were extremely expensive and hard to find.  I started researching on the Internet and ran across Handpicked Western Trucks.  I began to check their inventory regularly.  I read all of the comments and when the time was right and the funds were available I headed out to Leon, Virginia about 3 hours away.  The countryside was nice and so were the Owners of Handpicked Western Trucks.  They showed attention to detail, knowledge of their product and a willingness to go the extra mile.  A month has gone by and I love my 2004 Dodge 2500 4 door with an 8ft bed.  But I would have to say that my favorite part would be hearing that Cummins Turbo Diesel crank over every morning.  I even let my wife drive it!

The buying experience with you was a pleasure. I spent weeks scanning web sites for a used vehicle. On Monday November 9th I stumbled on your web site. I was pretty sure what I was looking for. After searching various websites on the internet I came upon your site. I have been looking for the perfect truck and after viewing your website I knew that if I kept looking on the site I would come upon what I was looking for. I was looking for a nice ford pickup. After checking your site almost every day for three or four months I saw the exact truck that I wanted. It was a 2003 Ford 7.3 powerstroke extended cab long bed with a manual transmission. The truck didn’t have a lot of miles on it and it looked like it was in great condition. The many pictures from every possible angle of the truck made it a lot easier to see how nice the truck was without driving 250 miles to see it. I was unable to go with my parents to pick up the truck, but my parents both said that Mark and Colleen were nice people and it was a great hassle-free buying experience.
